Anne Hathaway, who is expecting her third child with her husband Adam Shulman, recently faced allegations of wearing a fake baby bump as she attended the premiere of her new film, The End of Oak Street.

The Hollywood royalty opted for a custom Prabal Gurung outfit which comprised of a halter-neck light-blue top with a red cape-like extension and low-rise jeans. The outfit prominently exposed her baby bump and soon became a talking point on the internet after the pictures and videos went viral on social media.

The Internet Scrutinizes Anne Hathaway’s Baby Bump

Soon, some people online began pointing out that Anne’s baby bump looked fake or different from what they considered a typical pregnancy bump.

One of the social media users said, “Looks like a fake stomach. The belly button looks unreal.” Another X user said, “That belly is weird and unrealistic. It does not grow like that.”

Another user on X chimed in, “As someone who has kids, her belly looks like those fake ones they use in movies.” A social media user asked her followers, “Don’t you think her belly looks super fake? It does not even seem natural to me.”

While one X user said, “That isn’t a REAL belly bump,” another user on X added, “Looks like a prosthetic baby bump.” A social media user added, “Prosthetic pregnancy bellies are getting so realistic.”

Anne Hathaway Hits Back at Baby Bump Critics

Not one to stay silent, the Mother Mary star gave it back to her naysayers in her latest Instagram post. She shared a video on Monday, August 10, 2026, in which she showed off her baby bump while enjoying the premiere of The End of Oak Street at the Steven J. Ross Theater in Burbank, California.

She captioned the post stating, “Fake hair, real bump. Enjoy the @endofoakstreet Block Party chaos with me as my outfit literally melts in the heat.” Many fans ended up praising Anne Hathaway for giving back to her trolls and critics in style.

However, while some sections of the internet did not question the legitimacy of her baby bump, they called out The Devil Wears Prada star’s stylist Erin Walsh for dressing her up in an outfit which they called “ill fitting” and “inappropriate.” They blamed Hathaway’s daring outfit for paving the way to the “fake baby bump” rumors in the first place.

One of the social media users said, “Pregnancy is beautiful, but this is a stylist fail.” Another user on X added, “The bump itself is fine, but the jeans being pulled that low makes the whole silhouette look a bit strange.”

Some social media users also came out in support of The Princess Diaries actress and lashed out at the internet for expecting a woman to sport a certain kind of baby bump.

One of the comments said, “Apparently pregnancy bumps need to pass a standardized inspection now. She looks great, can we retire the discourse?”

Another fan of the actress said, “Pregnancy bumps aren’t supposed to look identical. She looks amazing, so I really don’t understand why everyone is making such a big deal out of it.”
