Ariana Grande and stylist Law Roach love a good reference. While on the press tour for Wicked: For Good, the duo went all out, working with Thom Browne on a custom look inspired by āall the Glindas,ā tapping Rahul Mishra for a hand-beaded Emerald City bodice, and pulling out a 73-year-old gown from The Wizard of Ozās head costume designer, Gilbert Adrian.
Now, for a look at life after Wicked, Grande and Roach picked out a Saturday Night Live look that leaned into the history of the show itself. In the promotional video shared ahead of tonightās episode, in which the actress will host, Grande stood next to Cher and Bowen Yang in a familiar criss-cross halter dress. With shades of orange, chocolate brown, and mustard yellow forming a chevron pattern, the piece instantly took viewers back to the 1970sāthe decade that welcomed the first episode of SNL.
But with a closer look, it was clear that the dress not only looked like it was from the ā70s, it was from the ā70s. Furthermore, it was designed by the beloved Bob Mackie for the one and only Carol Burnett, who wore it on a 1973 episode of the Carol Burnett Showāa sketch comedy series that ran from 1967 to 1978.

Elsewhere, Grande proved that while you can take the star out of Oz, you canāt quite shake the Glinda out of her. At least not quite yet. Joining Seth Meyers on his Late Night show Thursday night, the actress showed up in a blush-pink gown, looking just like the Good Witch. A custom piece by Paolo Sebastian, the princess look was designed with a massive tulle skirt and sweet off-the-shoulder bodice, the latter adorned with delicate ruching and matching buttons.
