Ben Affleck is revealing a surprising parenting moment he recently experienced.
On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the actor, 53, appeared on the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live and shared that his son Samuel, 13, whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, recently asked him for some betting money.
“My son asked me like a month ago, [he] was like, ‘Hey, um, can I get like 100 bucks to bet on sports?’ ” Affleck recalled.
“What? ‘My friends get $100, but if they lose it, then that’s it,’ ” the father of three said Samuel told him. “I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s a real standard, what discipline! Like, so that you don’t come twitching back like going, ‘I know that Green Bay is going to cover the over in the second half.’”
Kimmel then joked, “Did you tell him to call grandpa?” to which Affleck replied light-heartedly, “There’s a reason your grandpa’s broke.”
Earlier in the episode, Affleck revealed that his father, Timothy Byers Affleck, made most of his money from “being a small-time bookie.”

“I remember our first washing machine, our first VCR, in fact, dad coming home like, ‘You can thank Steve Grogan for this,’ the quarterback of the [New England] Patriots,” he recalled. “Everybody keeps betting on the Patriots to beat the spread. And so I really was grateful that the Patriots were terrible, to thank Steve Grogan’s knees for our VCR.”
Affleck added, “At the time, it was, like, shameful and kind of illegal. I mean, the statute of limitations has run out. Sorry, Dad.”
Meanwhile, the proud dad’s comments about his son’s betting request came not long after his son Samuel spotted a pair of $6,000 Dior Air Force 1s that he wanted at a sneaker convention in March 2025.
He added his son only liked the shoes because they were expensive, to which Samuel objected, "No, they're tough! I always said they look good."
In addition to Samuel, Affleck also shares children Violet, 20, and Seraphina, 17, with Garner, 53.
