Bryson DeChambeau told Donald Trump his Bedminster course was too tough for him after the two-time major champion endured a chastening week at LIV Golf New York.
DeChambeau finished in a tie for 38th at seven over par in New Jersey, 23 shots adrift of the winner, Joaquin Niemann, who powered to victory with U.S. President Trump watching on.
Despite having a poor week on an individual level, DeChambeau took home a share of $3 million after his Crushers team topped the leaderboard, and he was congratulated by President Trump on the victory. Earlier in the day, Trump received a telling reception from the crowd as he stepped out of the clubhouse.

DeChambeau, a Trump ally and chairman of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, was asked in his press conference to share details of the conversation.
"He just congratulated us and said that was fantastic golf, and I told him how tough his golf course is. I got my butt kicked this week, that's for sure," DeChambeau said.
"That was really all we talked about. Whenever we go to the properties, they've been great to us. The hospitality is amazing. They treat us well. All their staff are amazing.

"All positive things to say, and we just appreciated it and thanked him. Then he said, 'Great job and congratulations.'
"He was supportive of it, and then obviously supportive of Joaquin and how well he did on his golf course. He was really impressed with Joaquin, that's for sure."
President Trump also congratulated Niemann on his victory, his ninth on LIV, and the Chilean said: "It was really special to have Mr. President come in and see us. He loves golf. He definitely loves it. He loved us as well.
"It's very nice the way that the whole family treats us, the players, the pros, the team, the amenities they have at the golf courses, the facilities, the food, everything is amazing.
"It just shows how much it matters for him to be out here, especially how busy he is. Just for me, there's a lot of appreciation to him of just having his presence here."
President Trump attended the event with an entourage that included some notable names. Nine-time major champion Gary Player and Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Al-Rumayyan's attendance was particularly curious as the PIF, which bankrolled LIV since it launched in 2022, announced in April that it would terminate its support of the league at the end of August.
Trump, meanwhile, was mocked on social media after posting a bizarre AI-enhanced image of him and Player on his Truth Social platform.
