Cristiano Ronaldo is laughing off a wedding mix-up.
The Portuguese soccer player, 41, was rumored to marry his fiancée, Georgina Rodríguez, 32, over the weekend in his hometown of Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. As a result, hundreds of fans swarmed the Funchal Cathedral on Saturday, Aug. 8, in the hope of seeing Ronaldo and Rodríguez tie the knot, but they ended up crashing the wrong wedding.
The gathered masses packed in the center of Funchal were left disappointed after mistaking another couple’s wedding for Ronaldo’s. A photo and video of people crammed in the streets with their phones and cameras held aloft were shared by local newspaper JM Madeira on Instagram. Ronaldo reacted to the confused wedding onlookers in the comments section.
“🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣,” Ronaldo commented.

The droves of fans, young and old, eventually realized their error when the bride arrived. It was clearly not Rodríguez, and was revealed by Funchal Cathedral to be a woman named Nicole. The groom, Fábio, was waiting for her at the altar inside.
“Many congratulations to the couple Nicole and Fábio. After a lot of confusion on the street with so many journalists and tourists, we finally managed to close the church and celebrate,” the cathedral wrote on Facebook alongside wedding photos.

In a second Facebook post, the cathedral shared more photos of the crowd surrounding Nicole as she made her grand entrance, writing, “We’ve never seen anything like this here at the Cathedral. It was very difficult for the bride to enter the Cathedral church to get married.”

Although false reports drew fans to a different wedding entirely, some of Nicole and Fábio’s actual wedding guests found the chaos just as hilarious as Ronaldo did.

“We feel famous,” one guest joked to local news outlet Diario de Noticias da Madeira. “I find it impressive that these people think Ronaldo would get married today without security.”
They added that the moment will “certainly go down in history.”

Neither Ronaldo nor Rodríguez have confirmed their wedding date. The couple announced their engagement on Instagram on Aug. 11, 2025. The pair have been in a relationship for nearly a decade, having made their first public appearance as a couple in early 2017.
The soon-to-be groom and bride share five children: twins Eva Maria and Mateo, 9, daughter Alana, 8, daughter Bella, 4, and 16-year-old son Cristiano Jr., whom Ronaldo welcomed in a previous relationship. He and Rodríguez previously announced the death of Bella’s newborn twin brother, Ángel, in April 2022.
