Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke has spent most of his life entertaining the masses across the last 100 years, but the *Mary Poppins* star still craves more time doing what he loves as he prepares for his milestone birthday this weekend.

The 99-year-old reflected on his career and his current life in an emotional interview with *Good Morning America*, which aired Friday — one day before the star is set to turn 100.

"I play old men a lot. I always play them as angry and cantankerous. But it's not really that way. I don't know any other 100-year-olds, but I can speak for myself," the Tony and Emmy winner told *GMA* from his Malibu, Calif., home.**

He attempted to "pass down some of my wisdom" he earned over the years in his new book, *100 Rules for Living to 100*, which includes perspective dating back to his days on *The Dick Van Dyke Show* through to his current life with wife Arlene Silver.

Still, as Van Dyke told the program, there are challenges in his day-to-day.

"I miss movement. I've got one game leg from I don't know what," he explained. "I still try to dance, but movement" is what he misses most about his younger self.

Silver, however, has stood by his side for years, with Van Dyke's spouse breaking down in tears as she reflected on helping him through the later stages of life.

"It’s a privilege and an honor to take care of him and make him happy,” Silver said, tearing up. “He’s just in people’s hearts and the fabric of people’s lives.”

Added Van Dyke, "She kept me young, she gives me energy, she gives me humor, and all kind of support."

Toward the end of the interview, Van Dyke noted that, even though he's spent 10 decades living his best life, "the funniest thing is, it’s not enough" in the end.

"One hundred years is not enough," he admitted. "You want to live more — which I plan to, at least!"

He even has his sights set on another role, telling *GMA* that he wants to play the villainous Ebenezer Scrooge in *A Christmas Carol*.
