We are getting down to the nitty gritty of Survivor 49. And when you are a player on Survivor this close to the end, you not only need to think about making you sure make it to the end, you also need to think about keeping around the right people to get there — and the right people to sit next to.
That comes into clear focus in a scene that did not make it into the penultimate episode of Survivor 49, but you can watch it exclusively here.
The scene, which can be watched above, begins on day 23 with Steven Ramm and Rizo Velovic returning to camp with Tree Mail, which the R-I-Z-G-O-D RizGod Baby reads to the others: “A victory gives you a leg up today, at least for now you're still alive. Put your foot down when it's time to play, if you want to make it to the final five.”
Much incorrect speculation abounds as to what it could all mean. More interesting is what Savannah Louie tells us in a confessional interview after.

“So far, all of the leg and the lower body challenges that we've had, I've done pretty good on,” she notes. “So if it is lower body focused with a leg up, I'm hoping that this is going to be my day.”
Okay, granted, that’s not particularly interesting in itself, but it then leads into this. “This challenge today, it's not the most critical one yet, because I literally had to fight for my life in some of these other challenges, but it's the most critical, I think, for my alliance and the people I want to work with. So today, when you see me out there in that challenge, I'm not only fighting for myself, but I'm fighting for Rizo, I'm fighting for Soph. And honestly, even though Sage has thrown my name out there, I'm kind of fighting for Sage, too.”
Wait, what? Fighting for Sage? Sage Ahrens-Nichols? That Sage? Sure, the two rivals came together on the Yellow Sophie vote, but Sage has been pretty openly gunning for Savannah ever since the merge. So what gives? Explain yourself, Savannah!
“Because I don't want Sage to go home yet. I want Steven out of this game.”
Of course, Savannah would end battling directly against Sage, as the two would end up as the last two castaways standing — engaging in an epic 35 minute+ immunity challenge duel. Sage even attempted to come up with a deal to get Savannah to drop and give the miliary veteran her first individual immunity win, to no avail as Savannah earned her third immunity win.

But the scene shows just how focused Savannah was on pushing aside any sort of revenge vote gratification on Sage for taking out her ally Nate Moore, and instead focusing on Steven, the bigger threat.
“We feel very confident that Steven has an advantage,” Savannah explains. “So the only thing that could really throw a wrench into our plans is if Steven wins immunity and is totally safe tonight. I don't want him making it further. He's already a big threat to win this game, and getting him even more ammo is scary.”
This unaired scene also shows that Steven knew he was trouble if he did not win immunity, even with his Block-a Vote advantage.

“We pick up Tree Mail, it says something about a leg up and keeping your feet down and making it to tribal tonight and winning,” he explains in an interview. “And at this point, I'm feeling so confident in my competition skills that now I'm feeling ready to tackle it head on and come away with that immunity necklace. Because if I don't win it and Sage and Kristina don't win it, we're in trouble. One of us might be going home, and that is not what I want to see happen.”
But happen, it did. Watch the entire scene above, and read our full Survivor 49 episode recap.
