Officials have released more information about the death of Jackson Browne's son, Ethan Browne.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said that the "Running on Empty" singer's son died at 52 on Nov. 25 from the effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and lidocaine. Ethan's manner of death was listed as an accident, and the place of death was listed as residence.
The "Somebody's Baby" singer, 77, announced his son's death on Nov. 26.
"It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away," the musician wrote on Facebook. "We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment."

The "Doctor My Eyes" singer and Major welcomed Ethan in 1973. The couple married in 1975, and Major died by suicide the following year.
Ethan Browne worked as a model, actor, and music executive, founding Spinside Records, an imprint on his father's indie label Inside Recordings. He appeared in the Kate Hudson/John Corbett rom-com *Raising Helen*, the Angelina Jolie/Jonny Lee Miller thriller *Hackers*, and an episode of the short-lived DC superhero series *Birds of Prey* on the WB.
The elder Browne, who also shares his son Ryan with his ex-wife Lynne Sweeney, highlighted his emphasis on parenthood in a 2021 interview with AARP.

"Love of our children motivates us to work hard for a future where they'll be safe and nurtured and will flourish. You know, I tried. But I think I could have done a lot better — I have lots of regrets," he said at the time. "It's very difficult to divide your time between the imperatives of a creative life and the awesome responsibility of guiding and caring for the life of a child."
He continued, "Some of the small mistakes are the most difficult to rectify — a seemingly little mistake, but a wrong turn. I don't want to unpack them here, but I'll just say that my relationships with my two boys are the most important relationships I have."

The eight-time Grammy nominee also praised his son's parenting and artistry in a 2022 interview with Tru Rock Revival.
"Ethan is a great father. He's a great son, a great man," Browne said. "I love seeing him with his kids. When I see him in his movies, modeling, with his daughter, and being such a great dad, it makes me very proud. It makes me feel I've done something really right in my life."**
