K-pop influencer Mina Chan dies aged 26 after alarming TikTok livestream

K-pop influencer Mina Chan has died at the age of 26 with fans witnessing her alleged suicide during a TikTok livestream.

Her death comes after she had been subjected to intense scrutiny online from her fellow K-pop fans. Mina was known as a fan of K-pop group ENHYPEN, and had over 80,000 followers on TikTok.

Her death was reported by the Korea Herald who reported that the devastating incident took place during a livestream from her home on August 5. The Yongsan Police Station confirmed that police officers discovered her dead body at around 5.33 a.m. after receiving a concerned report from one of her acquaintances.

It is also claimed that multiple social media users contacted authorities to try and raise the alarm and send help for the Japanese influencer, who was based in South Korea, during the disturbing livestream.

Mina's younger sister is said to have also confirmed her death via an Instagram Story the day after she died. She wrote, "My beloved older sister, who was always kind and warm to everyone she met, has passed away. I kindly ask that you keep my sister in your thoughts and prayers."

Prior to her death Mina had faced a vicious backlash from other fans of ENHYPEN over an interaction during the boy band’s US show last month.

Mina had reportedly tried to get a member of the band, Sunoo, to pass some flowers to fellow member Ni-ki - who is from Mina's native Japan. The exchange caused some fans to accuse her of overstepping boundaries.

Mina shared a statement on X on July 31 where she apologized for the incident. She wrote, "I feel like my actions ended up taking advantage of Sunoo’s kindness. I’m truly sorry. I feel so apologetic toward Sunoo and all the Sunoo fans.

“By attending ENHYPEN’s fansigns multiple times, I had deluded myself into thinking I was closer to the members than I actually was. I deeply regret the rude behavior I exhibited in America. I ruined the atmosphere of the venue by prioritizing my own desire to meet Ni-ki over the precious time Ni-ki, who loves America so much, deserved. I’m truly sorry.”
