Lizzy Rain entered the Aug. 11 episode of WWE NXT expecting Shawn Spears to stand by her side against The Culling.
Instead, she was left searching for answers before an unexpected ally changed the complexion of the match — and the night’s outcome.
The mixed tag team bout initially appeared destined to become a nightmare for Rain after Spears failed to show up.
However, before The Culling could fully capitalize, EK Prosper emerged as a surprise replacement. This entry gave Rain a fighting chance against Niko Vance and Izzi Dame.
EK Prosper steps in to help Lizzy Rain after Shawn Spears’ absence on WWE NXT
The opening moments reflected the unusual circumstances. Rain took the fight to Izzi Dame early, landing a springboard senton and keeping the momentum on her side. But once Vance entered the match, The Culling quickly shifted the tide. They isolated Rain and wore her down with a tandem pop-up powerbomb.

Prosper’s arrival proved to be the turning point. After tagging in, he unloaded with stiff chops and a jumping heel kick before teaming with Rain for stereo offense, including matching tornado DDTs and dives to the outside. It was enough to remind The Culling that even the best-laid plans can be counted out before the three-count.
The action remained back-and-forth throughout the nearly 11-minute contest. Dame halted Rain’s momentum by sending her into the steel steps, while Vance came close to sealing the victory with a diving headbutt. Still, Rain refused to stay grounded, breaking free at a crucial moment and connecting with her Thunderstruck knee strike on Vance.
With Vance rocked, Prosper followed up with a crushing knee before climbing to the top rope. He delivered a flawless moonsault to score the decisive pinfall, securing the victory for his newly formed partnership with Rain.
Spears’ absence remains unexplained, leaving questions about his status and future involvement. For now, though, Rain and Prosper leave NXT with the win, while The Culling was left staring at the lights after an opening match that didn’t go according to plan.
