Per the statement, Bamonte died "after a short illness at home" on Thursday, Dec. 25.

"IT IS WITH ENORMOUS SADNESS THAT WE CONFIRM THE DEATH OF OUR GREAT FRIEND AND BANDMATE PERRY BAMONTE WHO PASSED AWAY AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS AT HOME OVER CHRISTMAS," the statement began.

The "Friday I'm in Love" group described Bamonte as "quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative."

"‘TEDDY’ WAS A WARM HEARTED AND VITAL PART OF THE CURE STORY," it continued. "‘LOOKING AFTER THE BAND’ FROM 1984 THROUGH 1989, HE BECAME A FULL TIME MEMBER OF THE CURE IN 1990, PLAYING GUITAR, SIX STRING BASS AND KEYBOARD ON THE WISH, WILD MOOD SWINGS, BLOODFLOWERS, ACOUSTIC HITS AND THE CURE ALBUMS, AS WELL AS PERFORMING MORE THAN 400 SHOWS OVER 14 YEARS."

After rejoining The Cure in 2022, Bamonte played "another 90 shows," which were "some of the best in the band's history," with the final one being The Show of a Lost World concert on Nov. 1, 2024, per the statement.

"OUR THOUGHTS AND CONDOLENCES ARE WITH ALL HIS FAMILY," the statement concluded. "HE WILL BE VERY GREATLY MISSED."

Born in London in 1960, Bamonte first became involved with The Cure as a part of the band's road crew in 1984 and later as the guitar technician and personal assistant for Robert Smith.

In 1990, after keyboardist Roger O'Donnell left the band, Bamonte joined as a full-time member, playing both guitar and keyboards, as well as bass and percussion on occasion.

Bamonte was a member of The Cure from 1990 to 2005, playing on several albums, from 1992’s Wish to 2000’s Bloodflowers.
