Peter Krause Details Return to TV After Devastating 9-1-1 Exit

9-1-1 fans need not be alarmed: Peter Krause's latest TV alter-ego is safe—for now.

After his beloved fire captain Bobby Nash was killed in a shocking twist during season nine of the ABC crime procedural, Krause is returning to the small screen in NBC's new drama Line of Fire.

And while many 9-1-1 fans are still mourning his character's untimely death, the Parenthood alum has actually been enjoying the much-needed change of scenery.

"It's been fun to be back in New York," Krause told E! News in an exclusive interview of relocating from the West Coast, where the Ryan Murphy-produced show films. "I went to NYU years ago, so it's a nice time for me to be in a different location."

And in his new series, the Six Feet Under actor stars as Mike Hollingsworth, the head of a family of law enforcement agents embroiled in a deadly case that challenges their love, loyalties and lawfulness.

"I love the cliffhanger elements of the show," the 60-year-old explained, "as well as all the family issues and the surprising comedy involved."

And while Line of Fire might be a bit of a departure from the natural disasters of 9-1-1, Krause noted some similarities between his latest role and his beloved Parenthood character.

"I am still discovering some things about Mike Hollingsworth as the scripts come in," he admitted, "but there's a little bit of Adam Braverman in there. He's a secret service agent, so he's also got kind of a hard edge as well."

Unfortunately, Krause couldn't put fans' worries to rest when it comes to Mike Hollingsworth's unwritten fate on the series—"I have no idea!"—his Line of Fire costar Hope Davis is pretty sure Mike won't be killed off in a similar fate to Bobby Nash's.

"That's definitely not going to happen," Davis, who plays matriarch Jane Hollingsworth, stated. "He's the head of the family. No, he can't go anywhere."

And that's good news for fans who haven't been the same since Krause exited 9-1-1 last April in a shocking twist.

Line of Fire premieres Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
