Prince Harry Seems “Determined” to Reconcile With the Royal Family and Won’t Do “Anything to Jeopardize That”

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet met with King Charles and Queen Camilla at the monarch’s country home, Highgrove, one month ago on July 10.
It was the first time Meghan and the children had seen the king face-to-face since 2022, four years ago.
In the aftermath of the visit, Harry is “determined” to continue in efforts towards reconciliation with the royal family and won’t do “anything to jeopardize that.”
Almost exactly one month ago, Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet visited Harry’s father, King Charles, at the monarch’s country home, Highgrove House, on July 10. The Sussex family met for roughly an hour with the king and Queen Camilla, a meeting that The Times reported left Harry feeling “buoyed, very happy, and really energized.”
According to a new report from The Mirror, the Duke of Sussex is “determined to make things work,” a source told the outlet, “and that means not doing anything to jeopardize that.”

The insider added, “The last few years have been incredibly emotional for him, and now he’s reached a place where he wants to not only visit his home country more, but also would really like to be with his family.” The publication reported that Harry wants to arrange further meetings with Charles to allow him to spend face-to-face time with Archie and Lilibet, but added that the key to full reconciliation between the king and his youngest son hinges on the understanding that whatever happens at the closed door meetings stays private.
Additionally, the source speaking to The Mirror added that Harry will not give up pursuing security protection that he and Meghan lost when they stepped back as working royals in 2020. Protection would guarantee Meghan and the kids visiting the U.K. with Harry, “and alleviate a lot of the stress he is under when it comes to arranging such a trip,” the source said.
Further steps towards a total reconciliation “will all depend on whether the palace feels Harry and Meghan are to be trusted,” former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror. “So there are a lot of ifs and buts at this point.”

Harry will be back in the U.K. next month—where he has reportedly been offered a room at Buckingham Palace—and will also be in his home country in July 2027 for the Invictus Games’ next iteration, to take place in Birmingham, England. Bond said that “there is a fighting chance” that the king will attend the Games in support of his son; getting Harry’s older brother Prince William to join as well will likely prove to be more of an uphill battle. A source recently told People that the relationship between William and Harry is “so broken.” A different insider who knows both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex said, “I thought it would have perhaps eased a little bit by now, to be honest. But there has been no movement, especially on William’s side. There is no contact.”
Bond told The Mirror that, when it comes to William, “there are no signs yet of any thaw in the frost. But he has much to think about, with the 30th anniversary of [Princess] Diana’s death next year, which—before the rift—is something he would have marked with Harry, as well as the Invictus Games.”
“Personally, I think it would be brilliant if we could see them all standing alongside one another and calling a halt to the bitterness,” she added. “Families are complicated. Families fall out. But that doesn’t mean it has to last forever.”

As for the king’s July meeting with the Sussexes at Highgrove, a source close to the monarch told Vanity Fair he “wanted the meeting, but was adamant it must be kept private.”
“Don’t expect to hear anything about what was said,” a source told the publication. “That was the promise Harry made to his father. It’s critical, because this is the first time the families have met in four years. Harry was very pleased it happened, because everything was up in the air.”
