Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon. The New York Times reported that the couple's daughter, Romy, discovered her father's body upon entering their house on Sunday, prompting her roommate, who accompanied her to the Reiner's home, to call 911. Authorities then discovered Michele's body when they arrived at the scene.

On Monday, the LAPD released a statement saying that their investigation concluded that the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was "responsible" for Rob and Michele's deaths. He was arrested around 9:15 p.m. Sunday in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles and taken into custody around 5 a.m. Monday. Authorities later said that Reiner did not resist arrest.

On Tuesday, Nick Reiner was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife. If convicted, Nick faces life in state prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.

Nick appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday morning, where he briefly spoke to confirm he consented to waiving his right to a speedy arraignment. His attorneys did not enter a plea during the appearance, and the judge ordered that the defendant be held without bail until his arraignment, which is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2026.

Romy and her brother, Jake Reiner, shared a statement mourning their parents on Wednesday. "Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," the siblings said in a statement to PEOPLE. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."

The siblings continued, "We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave."
