Robbie G.K. reflected on the overwhelming fan response to Netflix's Heated Rivalry and its impact on his career

Robbie G.K. has had a whirlwind over the past six months, thanks to the "impact" of Heated Rivalry.
G.K., 29, plays Christopher "Kip" Grady on the hit Netflix series. Kip, an art student, starts a secret romance with hockey star Scott Hunter (François Arnaud).
"We catch Scott and Kip on the very top of the rollercoaster of our storyline, and I think that there's a whole lot that could be explored after the fact. So I'd like to see some of that," G.K. explained while speaking with Danny Pellegrino, who hosted PEOPLE's exclusive coverage of the Elton John AIDS Foundation's 34th Academy Awards Viewing Party in Los Angeles on March 15.
The Canadian actor also told Pellegrino that the response to the show and the love from the dedicated fans have been "unbelievable."
"I have my mom here, and six months ago this was never a possibility — to be here on this carpet, let alone here in Los Angeles, and the impact the show has had. So I think every day it's becoming more and more real and settling in, but yeah, it's great," G.K. said.

Heated Rivalry, which is based on Rachel Reid's Game Changers book series and adapted for television by Jacob Tierney, also stars Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams.
G.K. explained that he had a similar childhood to Storrie, 26, noting in an interview with Forbes that he was "quite performative."

"I was always looking to try to get people to laugh," he said. "I think my parents identified that at a young age."
He also recalled being approached by Tierney, 46, for the role of Kip, and what drew him to the part originally.
"When Jacob came back looking for Kip, I remember thinking, 'Well, this is kind of a new character for me.' This is obviously very different than Scott’s character, but then I read the script and I read the writing, and I read the character description. I guess it worked out," he explained.

“I think as somebody who’s relatively new to maybe this opportunity, and this scale and size and quality of a production, having François as obviously a more senior actor, both in age, as well as experience, it was great," G.K. added to Forbes about his on-set experience so far.
