Samara Weaving revealed she once posed as Margot Robbie for a fan who mistook her for the actress at the airport a decade ago

Weaving and Robbie, who fans online have noted share a striking resemblance, are friends and have supported each other over the years

Weaving spoke to PEOPLE at the premiere of her new film, Carolina Caroline, which follows two lovers on a crime spree

Samara Weaving knows all too well about her similarities to friend Margot Robbie.

Weaving, 34, revealed at the L.A. premiere of her new film Carolina Caroline that she once pretended to be the Barbie actress, 35, after a fan mistakenly got the pair mixed up during an outing.

“I remember I was in an airport. It must have been like 10 years ago, and someone thought I was Margot,” she recalls to PEOPLE. “I just couldn't break it to them that I wasn't, so I posed for a photo with the fan, saying that I was Margot.”

“I don't know, they might have looked at it later and been like, that's not— that's some random lady,” she continues. “So yeah, I might be in someone's phone thinking that it's Margot, but other than that, no. I don't leave the house enough.”

The pair have been widely compared for their striking resemblance to each other (and to fellow actresses Emma Mackey and Jaime Pressly) online.

However, Weaving and Robbie also share something else: a friendship. The two, who previously starred together in Babylon, have supported each other over the past few years including at their respective movie premieres.

Weaving previously attended the premiere of Barbie in 2023, and the Wuthering Heights star returned the support at a Los Angeles screening of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, in March.

In March, the Eenie Meenie actress opened up to PEOPLE about how her friends, including Robbie, who welcomed a son with her husband Tom Ackerley in 2024, supported her as she prepared to welcome her first baby.

"Oh my gosh, all my girls here who are moms have just been so lovely, and I think what they all tell me is just, ‘You do it your way. Whatever makes you feel comfortable,’ ” she said of their pregnancy and parenting advice.

"I think our society, there's so many voices and opinions and that it's tough for women, especially when they're pregnant and being a mom. So they're all just so supportive of, whatever I want to do is good,” she added.

Carolina Caroline releases in theaters on June 5, 2026.
