Six Flags Over Texas' highly anticipated record-breaking roller coaster has officially entered its testing phase

On Wednesday, the Arlington, Texas, park shared a first look at the ride ascending a 309-foot climb and barreling down a 285-foot drop

Set in the "Mexico & Spain" area of the park, the ride will debut later this year as part of Six Flags Over Texas' 65th anniversary celebration

Six Flags has officially begun testing its newest record-breaking roller coaster that features a nearly 300-foot drop, promising to be a game-changer for thrill-seekers.

On Wednesday, May 27, Six Flags Over Texas took to social media to share a first look at the new Tormenta Rampaging Run in action. The footage, shared with PEOPLE, shows the world's tallest, fastest, longest and first-ever giga (300-foot-tall) dive coaster in the world as it climbs 309 feet in the air before a massive drop. The ride vehicle buzzes through the track, reaching top speeds of 87 mph.

In addition to being the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster in the world, the attraction will also break the record for the tallest vertical coaster loop at 179 feet, the highest Immelmann inversion at 218 feet and the highest 95-degree beyond-vertical drop at 285 feet.

“This inversion is not just another loop on a roller coaster. It’s massive," said park manager Mark Boyer in February. “This inversion will take riders to a height of 218 feet in the air, at a whopping 87 mph.”

The entire coaster spans 4,199 feet of track and offers “an extended journey full of airtime (weightless) moments, sharp turns and exhilarating drops that will make riders feel like they are bull runners,” per a press release previously shared with PEOPLE.

Inspired thematically by the Spanish tradition of the running of the bulls, the attraction will elevate riders to the top of the dive and, “just like waiting for the release of the bulls,” hold for a brief pause before barreling down the track, according to the park's website.

"As the world's first giga dive coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run introduces a completely new ride category, blending giga coaster heights with the fun and thrill of a dive coaster," Sophie Bolliger, president of Bolliger & Mabillard, the consulting engineers and designers of the coaster, said in a press release. "This level of innovation sets new standards for the theme park industry and our company is honored to be part of this historic moment with Six Flags."

The new ride is set within Rancho de la Tormenta, an immersive, themed area styled to look like an old and secluded Spanish village. Vibrant banners will fill the land alongside lively Spanish music.

Guests will also find a brand-new restaurant, Cocina Abuela, inspired by Spanish and Latin American cuisine. The menu will include classic dishes like Spanish rice, papas bravas, chicken tinga and house-made guacamole.

While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, the park has said it will open as part of the Six Flags Over Texas' 65th anniversary. The milestone celebration will feature new entertainment and food and beverage options, ride enhancements, park improvement initiatives and more.
